Make the decision before you play
Only play with money you can afford to lose. A bonus can extend a balance, but it can’t protect your deposit. Set a time to stop before opening a game, and keep essential spending outside your gambling budget.
- Choose a money limit and a stopping time while you’re feeling calm.
- Don’t borrow for a deposit or use money set aside for food and bills.
- Take a break if you’re upset, impaired or trying to win back a loss.
- Ask the casino about deposit limits, cooling-off periods and self-exclusion.
If stopping is getting difficult
Close the game and put some distance between yourself and another deposit. Tell someone you trust what’s happening. You can ask the casino about excluding your account and ask your bank whether gambling payment blocks are available.
You don’t have to work through this alone. Call 0800 006 008 for gambling support. This information page can’t provide counselling or urgent assistance; if you are in immediate danger, call the emergency services.
